BASIC TOOL LIST FOR BEGINNING CARPENTER APPRENTICES Everyday
All
apprentices must come to school every day wearing hard-soled work boots,
long white pants, and a long or short-sleeved shirt. Your pants and your
shirt should not have holes in them, should fit you comfortably, but should not
be baggy or over-sized. The “saggin’” look will not be tolerated. Bring a hard hat and clear safety glasses if you have them. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
You will need a 25’ tape measure.
(Do not buy an “easy read” tape measure
with the fractions of the inch actually printed on the
tape.) Thursday and Friday
You will need these tools: (If your contractor gives you a tool list, buy the tools on that list in addition to the following tools. Please bring that list to school with you.) 1.
Straight
claw framing hammer 2.
Utility
knife, retractable blade 3.
Hand
saw (Shark-tooth, or an 8 pt. preferred)
4.
Chalk
box with chalk 5.
Nail
puller (cat’s paw) and/or flat bar, pry bar 6.
Metal
speed square (not
plastic, Craftsman and Swanson are good brands) 7.
Level
(maximum 30” long) 8.
Tin
snips or Aviation snips (straight-cut, yellow- handled preferred) 9.
8”
Crescent wrench 10.
Wood
chisel 11.
Leather
or canvas pouch (if you don’t
own a pouch , wait until after the first day of class before you buy one.
We will discuss the pros and cons of different types of pouches on
the first day.) NOTE:
